Backline
In the events and music industry, “backline” refers to the instruments, instrument amplifiers (guitar, bass, keyboard…), and in general all the on-stage equipment that musicians need in order to play. The backline for a performance is specified in the band’s own rider.
At an event, musicians can’t always bring their own instruments or accessories for their performance for various reasons such as the size of the equipment (drum kit, piano, stools…), limited luggage on a trip to the event venue, or lack of time to set up all the backline gear. In this case, the equipment is rented and set up by a professional before the musicians arrive, leaving the backline ready for them to get familiar with the instruments and then carry out the technical tests and rehearsals.
Backline technicians are responsible for this installation and preparation of the backline equipment.
