Graphic Equalizer
Sometimes everything is set up correctly, yet the microphone still feeds back through the speakers. This is where a good technician and graphic equalizers come into play, among other tools.
Since feedback usually occurs in a small group of frequencies in the audio system, rather than the whole spectrum, reducing those specific frequencies helps technicians stop and prevent the feedback loop without significantly impacting overall sound quality.
A graphic equalizer allows audio technicians to do just that. Technicians intentionally raise the mic volume to induce feedback, and then use a graphic equalizer or similar device to reduce or eliminate any frequency that causes system feedback. This usually happens during event prep and can easily take an hour or more to eliminate all issues. That annoying screeching moment under control can save your event! Also, since every person speaks at a different frequency, having everyone speak during rehearsal helps avoid problems.
