Intercom
Known as Intercom, it generally refers to the private bidirectional communication system used in a production for communication among the organizers and staff of an event.
This audiovisual term refers to an independent system, usually wired, although wireless systems are increasingly common. These systems do not rely on any carrier, and although their range is typically local, there are systems that, via the internet or other telematic services, allow integration of users from anywhere in the world.
In its basic form, the system consists of a central unit and user belt packs, which can be as many as are connected (within each manufacturer’s limitations). The simplest configuration is the creation of an intercom channel—or internal communication line—where all users can freely participate and listen, also known as “party line” mode. As systems grow in complexity, different party line channels can be added, with permissions to talk, respond, or listen being configurable.
