Public Address (PA)

Public Address (PA) is the technical term used to refer to the main sound system used at an event. A basic system consists of all the sound input and/or playback devices (microphones or other sources like computers, players, etc.), signal processing devices (the simplest: a basic sound console), and ends with a set of loudspeakers that, as speaker cabinets, project sound to the audience. Although we’ll see that other speaker cabinets serve different purposes, we refer to Public Address (PA) as those specifically used to cover the audience area. This system generally uses the most power, since its goal is to reach all attendees.
